The courtyard at Holywell School has been given a complete lift. What was once a plain yard is now a bright, modern pitch that stands out the second you see it. The change is big, and it’s already making a difference to how pupils use the space. The main surface is green artificial grass with built-in goal markings. There are two options depending on how the pitch is being used. When the full pitch is in play, pupils follow the white goals. When it’s split for smaller matches, they switch to the yellow goals. That bit of flexibility means the space works for big games as well as for two matches running side by side. Around the pitch is a bold blue and orange border. It frames the green centre and gives the yard a more polished look. The colours pop against the grass, making the whole space feel lively and well put together.
On one sideline, the design goes a step further with four running lanes marked out in blue, orange, red and black. Pupils use them in all sorts of ways - racing during break, warming up before PE, or just taking a walk with friends while chatting. The lanes add variety and keep the yard from being just about football.
