The courtyard at this school in Tallaght had a few nice touches already. There were trees and shrubs giving it some greenery, but the ground itself was just concrete tiles. Over time, weeds had started to grow in between, and the whole space looked a bit tired. The school wanted to freshen it up without changing the layout. Artificial grass was the simple answer. Once it went down, the difference was immediate. The bright green surface runs neatly around the trees and plants, tying everything together and lifting the whole courtyard. What stands out is how much softer and more inviting the space feels.
Before, it was somewhere you passed through. Now it feels like somewhere to stop, sit, and spend time. The grass frames the planting, making the trees and shrubs look better too. It’s the same courtyard, but it has a completely different atmosphere. The pupils noticed straight away. They use it more now - chatting with friends, relaxing, or just enjoying the change of scene. It’s not a new playground or a sports pitch, but it doesn’t need to be.
