The courtyard at St. David’s in Artane used to be a plain grey yard. It was practical but didn’t have much life or colour. Now, after being resurfaced with artificial grass, it’s completely changed. The new courtyard is bright, fun and inviting - a place pupils are drawn to as soon as they see it. The main surface is a bold blue grass that immediately lifts the whole space. Against the backdrop of the school buildings, the colour really stands out and sets the tone for a playful, lively yard. It doesn’t just look different - it feels different too.
Built into the blue are a range of colourful designs. There’s hopscotch ready for pupils to jump straight into, snakes that wind across the surface, and pawprints leading the way through the yard. These features add energy and variety. They give children more than just a surface to stand on - they give them prompts for games, movement and imagination. The transformation has made the courtyard more than just a yard. It’s now a proper play space where pupils can run, explore and socialise. The mix of colour and designs keeps it engaging for younger children and older ones alike.
