At St. Mary’s, the ASD unit had an enclosed courtyard that wasn’t living up to its potential. It felt dull and lifeless - not the sort of space that encouraged children to explore or play. SchoolsGrass were asked to change that, and the result is a striking transformation. The courtyard has been fitted with bright, colourful artificial grass. Instead of one flat surface, the area now mixes bold red with green, instantly lifting the mood of the space. The contrast between the colours makes the courtyard eye-catching and fun, while still being safe and practical underfoot.
Adding to this are playful designs built straight into the surface. A colourful hopscotch sits ready for children to jump into. Paw prints lead the way, creating movement and interest across the yard. These little details turn the ground into part of the play, not just the backdrop to it. And the fun doesn’t stop on the ground. On one of the courtyard walls, an artificial paw print was added, tying the design together and carrying the theme beyond the surface. It’s a simple touch, but it makes the space feel more immersive and engaging.
